Try This Easy Way to Plan Family Movie Night

Our weekdays fill up quickly, and we overlook the need for quality rest and family time. Scheduling a family movie night is a great way to spend time together, and I have an easy way to plan the evening! Our movie nights can be extravagant or extremely simple, depending on my time for the week and I tend to keep the details EXTREMELY simple!

Set The Date For Family Movie Night

Set the date! Family movie night works great for a quarterly, monthly, or weekly activity; make sure to pick your date and put it on the schedule immediately. Share it with everyone on the family calendar, jot it down in a kiddos school planner or write it on the kitchen chalkboard. Make sure the chosen date is available for all to see and look forward to!

Let The Kiddos Pick The Movie

Make it their night! Give the kiddos ownership of the family event by allowing them to pick a movie they are interested in. To avoid fussing, make a small list of choices, or choose a genre like comedy, thriller, action, etc. Everyone will enjoy the show when the family decides together.

Choose a Family Movie Theme

Choosing a theme is lots of fun! Try a Marvel or Disney princess Marathon! You can wear costumes, decorate the living room, set up a fun food display, or simply pile up on the couch! No need to stress, the purpose of a family movie night is to have fun and enjoy each other’s company.

Pick a Family Movie Night Meal

Go the extra mile and pick a meal that correlates to the film or theme you’ve chosen for the night. Eat spaghetti with syrup when viewing ‘Elf’ or extra cheese pizza while showing ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle.’ It makes no difference what’s for dinner, but it can add an extra flair to the evening.

Pick a Fun Movie Snack

Don’t forget the popcorn. It’s always a necessity for family movie night! Leave it plain, or set up a popcorn stand with multiple flavors. Get some vintage Jiffy popcorn to heat over the stove, grab movie box candies at the grocery store, or make themed cupcakes and cookies. Making snacks together is another way to spend some extra time together.

Initiate a Family Night Movie Review

Family time isn’t over when the movie ends! Take a few minutes and review it together. What was your favorite part? What did you find scary or funny? What was the moral of the story, how did it make you feel, or can you apply it to everyday life? A movie review is a great way to incorporate family conversation.

Our families are so important and we are all guilty of allowing our schedules to get a little out of hand. There’s always an excuse to spend time together and scheduling a family movie night is just the way to do it!

Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.
