Scripture Reading: Job 38
Key Verse: ‘This far you may come and no farther, here is where your proud waves halt’ (Job 38:11)NIV.
‘Unstable,’ is the word that best describes 2020.
We are frightened as we face a pandemic that cripples our health and takes our loved ones away. We are angry as we experience or witness racial injustice across the country. Conversations regarding the economy or politics feel strained and disturbing. What’s going to happen next?
Our friend Job understands what uncertainty feels like after extreme catastrophe and he pours his heart out to God after a rough conversation with a few friends. God asks Job if he was present when the foundations of the world were laid. He challenges Job to acknowledge who marked the earth’s dimensions and set it’s cornerstone into place.
Our Lord and Savior goes on to explain that HE is the one who shut the very seas behind doors as it burst forth from it’s womb. The mighty ocean is only allowed to come so far an no further. If God is that intentional with a few drops of water, imagine the care and concern that goes into the limit he places on the troubled waters we battle in our lives.
Prayer: Dearest Father, Our troubles become overwhelming at times and we feel that we are thrown about and tossed by extremely heavy waves. Please help us know that you are in control and we have nothing to fear. You have power of all things great and small and we have peace knowing that you hear our every thought and fear. Amen.
