Today, I’d like to introduce you to the new kid in town.
He’s short, fluffy, and quite a feisty little spaz. He likes to sit in the sun all day and practice jumping from one piece of furniture to another. He finds amusement in swatting my face at 4 AM and this little guy has the audacity to continue his swatting game throughout the day with the hubby, kiddos, and our big ole’ German Shepherd.
Here’s how a little kitten named Bo came into our lives.
One Saturday evening, a friend called to tell me she saw a kitten run from our house and into the ditch across the road. I didn’t think too much of it as this was a common occurrence. We live on a busy road and remain on the lookout for lost animals so they do not meet a tragic end. It was quite dark outside and again, we are on an extremely busy road so, keeping our safety in mind, I told her I’d look for it first thing in the morning
The following morning, there were no kitty cats to be found so we went off to church. As I sat on the pew, minding my own business, I get a text from my husband. He had followed behind us and as he turned the engine off in the parking lot, he heard meowing. A kitten was hiding inside the spare tire under his truck bed.
As always, we cleaned him up, fed him, and immediately made a social media post to alert a potential owner or start the rehoming process. This method usually produces results quickly, but not this time.
Instead of comments like, ‘So cute, I have a friend who is looking to adopt,’ or ‘I know the owner, let me message them,’ the only response I got was “You should keep him,” or “Tuxie cats are the best, keep this one.”
Although I’m obsessed with furbabies of all shapes and sizes, I’m a ‘dog person,” and have never entertained the idea of owning a cat. But, there was a problem with this kitty cat. My big ‘ole German Shepherd was infatuated with him.
Usually, Hank ignores our little fosters after a few minutes, but not this time. This baby was different. My big, bad wolf dog was smitten with a kitten. Unbelievable.
And so were we.
Here we are, a few weeks later and Bo (Swedish spelling means, ‘to live’) is still here. The new kid in town is feisty, spazzy, and such a wonderful new addition to the family.
