Real Life is Scary

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way. Psalm 46:1-2

My husband and I purchased our first home in the summer of 2009. It was such a beautiful little neighborhood, and we eagerly awaited the fall. When October arrived, we pulled out the decorations, fog machines, and all things Halloween. We consistently went ‘all-out’ for the few trick-or-treaters in our old neighborhood but were completely caught off guard when we ended up with almost 80!!!!

Unfortunately, my husband’s Predator costume was a bit too lifelike for the little ones, and he had to change quickly. The following year, our trick-or-treater numbers fell dramatically. Real life is too scary sometimes.

David has many fears and speaks freely to his Creator regarding the multitude of real-life dilemmas. His enemies have him cornered and talk about him vindictively. They make fun of David as they plot his death and claim his God does not exist. Fear occasionally blinds David, and he feels God has forgotten him or has chosen to hide His face, but his blindness only lasts a moment. David is always quick to recognize that the Lord is worthy of praise because He is present in every moment.

We fear a multitude of daily dilemmas. Our enemy is the ultimate predator and persistently stalks us in anticipation of an opportunity to pull us away from our Creator. Filled with despair, we often feel hopeless, but our fear never lasts long. We know the Lord is always listening. He understands our dilemma before our petition and is quick to provide the refuge we seek.

Dear Father, We are grateful for Your presence in a scary world. You remain eager to provide refuge when we are afraid, and we will praise You consistently for Your unconditional love no matter our dilemma.  In Jesus’s name, Amen.

We find refuge, strength and joy as we cling to the Lord through our hardships.
