At first, it was a scary site to see that the church bulletin board is empty this Christmas.
Scripture: Luke 2:1-20
Verse: For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11).
I passed by the bulletin board at church last week and it made me sad to see it so bare and empty. There was one newspaper article and a graduation announcement.
That was it!
The church bulletin board used to look much different. You could expect to see stacks of paper scattered all over the place; sign-up sheets for Sunday school teachers, a list of food items requested for the next luncheon, birth announcements, and sweet thank-you cards.
As a matter of fact, I usually found it difficult to tack on new paperwork because the cork was riddled with a thousand little holes from previous material.
Why it’s not bad to have a bare bulletin board…..
Crazy as it sounds, a bare bulletin board is not a bad thing. Technology allows us to make announcements via e-mail, social media, or a home page on the church website. The information is still the same, just provided in a different way. In my opinion, it’s a vast improvement considering everything I need to know is at my fingertips.
Just imagine having church news delivered directly from an Angel’s mouth!
The shepherds were quite impressed when the Angel of the Lord announced the birth of Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us the Magi were ‘overjoyed,’ when they saw the announcement by a star. Either way, the delivery was spectacular!
We must consider the multiple techniques available to make announcements regarding the Gospel. Although our delivery method is much different, the message is still the same. We have been given the ultimate call to action, which is to spread The Word!
Dear God, We are humbled by the knowledge Christ died for our sins so that we may be close to you. Please help us to continue to share the good news with the methods of delivery you have provided. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
See why Mary didn’t need to know much about the baby boy she held here.
