Thanksgiving is a week to think is a great time to think about how much we appreciate our shepherd.
Remember your leaders who have taught you the Word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and try to trust the Lord as they do (Hebrews 13:7).
The good shepherd anoints the head of his sheep with oil to prevent parasites from biting and causing diseases that can lead to death. Oil fills the creases around their eyes, nose, and cute little ears. This makes it impossible for nasty critters to bite them. I imagine some of the sheep fuss about the procedure while others find it comforting. Either way, they don’t really understand why it’s important and don’t really appreciate the work behind it.
Paul reminds the Hebrews to consider the good that comes from the work of their leaders. Leaders of the early church diligently taught and looked after their flock on a daily basis. They were an example of the way the people were to trust the Lord and were to be appreciated for the good work God was able to accomplish through their calling.
Our church leaders work diligently to anoint us with the truth so that we may be protected against the dangers in the world around us. Sometimes we overlook the sacrifices they make after accepting God’s calling. We must be more appreciative of the time and effort our leaders put forth in their service to the Lord.
Father, please help us to be more observant of the workload our church leaders bear in order to answer God’s calling. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
We have so much to be thankful for. What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?
