So, my dear brothers, since future victory is sure, be strong and steady, always abounding in the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever wasted as it would be if there were no resurrection.
Last week, my oldest decided to tryout for volleyball. She’s extremely artistic and has never been involved in sports, so I was excited about this new interest………. until we got to the school gym!
I was blown away by the intensity of the her competition; the other girls were fierce and had obviously been playing for years. I wasn’t expecting that and knew we didn’t stand a chance. I quickly explained the reality of the situation to my daughter in kind Mommy words and asked if she wanted to make a run for it; she was determined to tryout.
And she did a FANTASTIC job!
After tryouts, my daughter and her new friend waited an eternity to see who made the team. They skipped over to the door as the coach posted results and quickly discovered that neither made it. My daughter wasn’t too worried, but her friend was very upset.
My daughter immediately understood the little girl’s disappointment and whispered something in her ear. I’m not sure what she said to her in that brief moment, but the little girl’s frown turned into a big smile as they came bouncing back to the table without a care in the world.
Whatever those few little words were, they made a big difference to her friend.
The Corinthians misunderstood the importance of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection. They understood bits and pieces, which resulted in a big mix-up. As always, Paul stepped in to clear up the details. He explained the significance of Christ’s resurrection and how we too will be resurrected after death. And because of Christ’s selflessness, our actions for the Lord are not wasted, even the small ones.
We often believe miracles must be big and bountiful occurrences, but that is not the case. God uses our smallest actions for His biggest blessings, and we must rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us to those opportunities.
Our small words in a brief moment have a big impact in God’s plan.
Dearest Father, Our actions are never wasted. Please guide us to see opportunities where You can use our words and actions for Your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
